One in the other

Created Nov. 2015

Visual and musical duo without words
Adults and teenagers from 12 years old
Duration: 50 min
_

The pretty picture: a man and a woman, or rather a woman and a man? A couple, then, mixed, well-matched. Normal. In their flowery interior, without any wrinkles. A beautiful gilded cage where the little mechanism of "normal" happiness tinkles. With a matching bedspread.

Then the night, which transports into its dreamlike spaces the confused bodies, with their secrets, their small transgressions and their magnificent ambiguities. The masculine and the feminine size each other up, mingle. One within the other, They reinvent themselves, as tender mutants, in a visual and musical universe without words, between wires, pulleys and puppets.

She and he go through this initiatory quest which blurs genres and disrupts conventions in the face of a binary society. A tiny departure from the framework that delicately re-examines our perceptions of identity within the couple.

“A fascinating show that tackles the question of the couple, the roles they distribute and the symbols they adorn themselves with. An allegorical journey, from the most standardized couple to the most unbridled unconscious, it is a dive into the representations to which we are invited by the artists, with the help of tableaux each more worked than the last, visual as well as sound. (…) The show is intelligent. It is beautiful theater, the kind that asks questions but does not impose answers.”

“A show with a precise, precise sense of aesthetics that draws the audience into a world of gentle, enveloping sensuality.”

Theater News

With the current theme of gender deconstruction as a backdrop, this polymorphous production subtly combines masks, puppet theatre, shadow theatre and sleight of hand to paint a portrait of the behavioural mechanisms at work in life as a couple. (…). Scenes that follow one another with clockwork precision, impeccable acting from the actors, impressively realistic puppets: all the ingredients of a high-quality show are present. If the silence of the La Mue/tte company could discourage fans of text-based theatre, it does not fail to take the spectator on a journey into a comical and poetic experience with appropriate sensuality.
